Clinical/Dental FAQs

**Maintaining a Healthy Smile**

A healthy smile depends on both at-home care and professional cleanings. With proper maintenance, you can prevent toothaches, tooth loss, and the need for restorative treatments. Regular checkups also help detect serious conditions like oral cancer, diabetes, liver disease, and nutritional deficiencies.

Brushing twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush and ADA-approved fluoride toothpaste is the first line of defense against cavities and gum disease. To maintain effectiveness, toothbrushes should be replaced every two to three months.

Flossing plays a crucial role in preventing cavities and gum disease. Using an adequate length of floss, gently guide it between each tooth, curving it around the gumline and moving it up and down to remove plaque. It’s important to floss behind the last tooth and use a floss threader for bridges or artificial teeth.

During each visit to Avalon Dental, Dr. Yu conducts a comprehensive exam to evaluate oral health and monitor home care routines. After reviewing the findings, personalized recommendations are provided to maintain or improve overall dental health. A follow-up appointment is then scheduled to ensure continued care.
